GOD HEARS our CRIES – EVEN TODAY!
After serving her mistress Sarah faithfully all her life, Hagar and her young son gets expelled from her master’s home with just some bread and water into the wilderness of Beersheba (Gen. 21:14). When her water was used up and she could not move on in the hot desert any longer, she left her son under one of the shrubs (v. 15), went a little distance, and started weeping loudly and uncontrollably about her current dire situation (v. 16). However, what caught my attention was verse 17: “And God heard the voice of the lad…” In order to confirm this earlier statement, the angel of the Lord who called out to Hagar speaks out: “Fear not, for God has heard the voice of the lad where he is.”
How did God hear the voice of a child when it was his mother who was crying loudly at a distance? The answer is that the child must have cried out to God for help at the same time and God could not shut off His ears from the desperate cry of a child. Psalms 34:6 says that “The poor man (or child) cried out, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles”. Luke 18: 7, 8a tells us: “And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him…I tell you that He will avenge them speedily…”
Let us be assured that when we cry out to God in our distress – even today - He will surely hear us & deliver us speedily!
