Working together to build the Church of Jesus Christ!
Exodus
chapters 35 & 36 give us a beautiful picture of how God wants to build His
Church, the universal body of Jesus Christ. Without any doubt, God, the Master
Architect and Designer, designed every detail of the Tabernacle, and verbally
conveyed the details to Moses (Exodus 25:1 – 31:18). God also renewed His
covenant with the children of Israel (Exodus 34:10-26), and makes Moses to
write down all the words of the covenant including the Ten Commandments (Exodus
34:27-28). Moses gave the instructions to the children of Israel as to what is
required from them in building the Tabernacle, which is to willingly and
cheerfully bring offerings to the Lord of articles that are required to build
the Tabernacle (Exodus 35:1-19). The people gave offerings freely and in
abundance (Exodus 35:20-29; 36:3-7). God called out Bezalel and Aholiab and
gifted them with wisdom, understanding, design and work expertise and teaching
skills to provide technical leadership to all the other gifted artisans and
craftsmen in this building project (Exodus 35:30-36:2). Based on very specific
design instructions (Exodus 36:8-38) the Tabernacle building project started in
full swing.
When we apply on a spiritual basis, Jesus Christ is building His Church even today. He declared in Matthew 16:18b “…I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it”. The Church of Jesus Christ is being built with Jesus Christ being the foundation stone (Matthew 16:18a, 1 Cor. 3:11; 10:4). We are the living stones of the Church (1 Peter 2:5), as well as God’s fellow workers (1 Cor. 3:9a). God has given us different intrinsic abilities that we should use to build His church. As the children of Israel under the leadership of Moses build the Tabernacle, let us realize what our abilities are these days, rise up and work together to build the Church of Jesus Christ.
