Principles for God’s acceptable freewill offerings
February 7 Bible Reading: Leviticus Chapters 22-24
Principles for God’s acceptable freewill offerings
In our readings today in Leviticus 22:17-33, we can get a clear understanding about the kind of freewill offerings that God will accept from us.
- Our offerings must be 'voluntary': “You shall offer of your own free will…” (v. 19a)
- Our offerings must be 'perfect' - without having any blemish or defects (v. 19b-24)
- Our offerings must 'not be borrowed from others' but should be our very own (v. 25)
What are the principles for our freewill offerings to be accepted by God?
- Our offering should be the best we can give to God - even our own bodies (Rom. 12:1-2)
- God is honored by our gifts (Exodus 35:22)
- Generous giving honors God (Ezra 2:68-69)
- God will reward us for giving to others (Mark 9:41)
- Giving helps others live (Acts 2:44-45)
- We should support Christian workers (Acts 28:10)
- We should give generously and cheerfully (2 Cor. 9:6-9)
- Wealthy people should give more generously (1 Timothy 6:17-19)
- God is pleased with our gifts (Hebrews 13:16)
- Giving reflects God’s love (1 John 3:17)
Our Lord Jesus has instructed us clearly: "Freely you have received, freely give" (Matt 10:8). May God open up our hearts and wallets, and enable us to sow good seeds and give generously to His kingdom, even today!
